Cruising (Le Vengeur) was commissioned by the London International Festival of Theatre and performed on HMS President in July 2001
The performance lasted three hours, during which time I invited the audience to act out their erotic fantasies on my body; bathed under the red neon glare of a sign that read ‘open’
The axis of exhibitionism/voyeurism was explored further by using hidden surveillance cameras to transmit real-time footage of the unfolding events to audiences in other parts of the ship
The intervention was later re-staged for camera and broadcast as part of the cultural history series; Taboo - 50 Years of Censorship in a feature alongside works by Jake & Dinos Chapman and Pier Paulo Pasolini
